Katije Ltd ("we", "us", "our") is the data controller for your personal information under UK GDPR. We are a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 17205977), with registered office at 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA.

This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit katije.com or shop.katije.com and interact with our services. For questions about this policy, contact us at support@katije.com.

What we collect

We collect the following personal information:

When you join our waitlist or subscribe to emails: your email address, and optionally your first name and any preferences you share (such as information about your cat).

When you opt in to SMS marketing: your UK mobile phone number, which you provide on our website after submitting your email. We record the time and method of your opt-in as evidence of consent under UK PECR.

When you place an order (once our shop is live): your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, and payment information. Payment processing is handled by Shopify Payments and Stripe. We do not store your full card details.

When you browse our site: we collect technical data through cookies, browser localStorage, and similar technologies, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring URL. This data is collected via PostHog, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, and Klaviyo tracking scripts. Advertising scripts load in a consent-aware mode that limits data collection until you give consent through our cookie banner. PostHog (product and user-experience analytics, US-based) loads from page load to support page-view, interaction, and performance analytics under legitimate interest; until you give consent it operates in a cookieless mode without persistent identifiers, and only uses persistent storage to recognise return visits once you have consented.

If you accept cookies, we also generate a random anonymous identifier (a UUID stored in your browser's localStorage under the key "katije_ext_id") which we use to improve Meta advertising match quality across your visits. This identifier is generated only after you grant consent, is reset when you clear your browser storage, and contains no personal information on its own. It is transmitted to Meta in hashed form alongside other event data.

When you submit a form on our site: when you join the waitlist, subscribe to emails, or opt in to SMS, we transmit hashed identifiers (your email address, your IP address, your browser user agent, the Meta browser identifier, and the anonymous browser identifier described above where applicable) to Meta through their Conversions API for advertising measurement purposes. This server-side transmission occurs when you submit a form, regardless of your cookie preference, on the legal basis of legitimate interest in measuring the effectiveness of marketing you have responded to directly. Sensitive data such as your email address is SHA-256 hashed before transmission. You can object to this processing by contacting support@katije.com.

When you accept cookies and browse our site: we additionally send anonymous PageView events (page URL, your IP address, your browser user agent, the Meta browser identifier, and the hashed anonymous identifier described above) to Meta via the Conversions API. These server-side PageView events are only transmitted after you grant cookie consent, on the legal basis of your consent. They are used to improve advertising measurement accuracy in cases where browser-level tracking is blocked or limited.

When you contact us: your email address and the contents of your message.

How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Send you waitlist updates, product launches, and marketing emails (legal basis: consent, which you can withdraw at any time)
  • Send you SMS marketing messages about launches, restocks, and new attachments, only if you have opted in to SMS specifically (legal basis: consent)
  • Process and fulfil orders once our shop is live (legal basis: performance of a contract)
  • Improve our website and understand how visitors use it (legal basis: legitimate interest in improving our services)
  • Run targeted advertising through Meta and TikTok based on site activity (legal basis: consent for browser-based tracking and server-side PageView measurement; legitimate interest for server-side conversion measurement of users who have submitted information directly to us)
  • Respond to your questions or support requests (legal basis: legitimate interest in providing customer service)
  • Comply with legal obligations including tax record-keeping (legal basis: legal obligation)

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Who we share your information with

We share your information with the following service providers, who process it on our behalf:

  • Klaviyo (email and SMS marketing platform, US-based)
  • Shopify (e-commerce platform, when our shop launches)
  • PostHog (product and user-experience analytics, US-based; operates cookieless until you grant consent)
  • Meta (advertising). For users who have given cookie consent, we transmit data via the Meta Pixel in the browser and via the Conversions API server-side, including anonymous PageView events (page URL, IP address, user agent, Meta browser identifier, hashed anonymous browser identifier). For all users who submit a form on our site, regardless of cookie preference, we transmit Lead event data via the Conversions API (hashed email, IP address, user agent, Meta browser identifier). Sensitive identifiers are SHA-256 hashed before transmission.
  • TikTok (advertising via TikTok Pixel, for users who have given cookie consent)
  • Cloudflare (DNS and site performance)
  • Vercel (website hosting infrastructure, US-based, processes IP addresses for traffic delivery)

Each of these providers has their own privacy policy. We only share the data necessary for them to provide their service to us.

If we engage a third-party logistics provider for order fulfilment, your shipping details will be shared with them for delivery purposes.

Cookies and similar tracking technologies

Our site uses cookies, browser localStorage, and similar tracking technologies. Non-essential tracking (analytics, advertising, and marketing measurement) is managed through our cookie banner.

Essential cookies and storage are used to remember your cookie consent choice and to keep the site functioning. These do not require consent.

Non-essential tracking includes cookies set by PostHog, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, and Klaviyo, as well as a unique anonymous identifier we store in your browser's localStorage to improve Meta advertising match quality. These scripts and identifiers operate in a consent-aware mode where, until you grant consent, personalised tracking, cookie-based identification, and server-side PageView measurement are suppressed. Once you grant consent, full tracking activates. If you decline consent, tracking remains suppressed and your visit is not used for personalised advertising. The localStorage identifier is not generated until you grant consent.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clearing your browser cookies and localStorage and revisiting the site, which will re-display the consent banner.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Object to processing of your personal data for marketing purposes
  • Restrict processing of your personal data in certain circumstances
  • Receive your personal data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time (for example, by unsubscribing from emails)

Email marketing

We send marketing emails through Klaviyo. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email, or by emailing support@katije.com. When you unsubscribe, we will stop sending you marketing emails but may retain your email address on our suppression list to ensure we don't contact you again.

SMS marketing

If you have opted in to receive SMS marketing from us, we send up to 4 marketing messages per month through Klaviyo. Topics may include product launches, restocks, and updates on new attachments.

You can opt out at any time by:

  • Replying STOP to any marketing text we send you
  • Replying HELP to any marketing text to receive contact information
  • Emailing support@katije.com requesting removal from our SMS list

When you opt out, we add your number to our SMS suppression list to ensure we do not contact you again. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply to texts you receive from us. We do not charge for SMS marketing.

Your phone number is stored in Klaviyo. We retain it as long as you remain subscribed to SMS marketing, and add it to a suppression list on opt-out.

Data retention

We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to provide our services to you. If you unsubscribe from our mailing list, your email address is moved to a suppression list. If you request deletion, we will remove your data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it (for example, order records for tax and accounting purposes, which we retain for 7 years).

International transfers

Some of our service providers (Klaviyo, Shopify, PostHog, Meta, TikTok, Vercel) are based in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards including UK International Data Transfer Agreements, Standard Contractual Clauses, or equivalent mechanisms approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
